ABOUT THE SITE
Medilanum was born as a political-religious center of the insubitable confederation. In the three years 225- 222 ac Roman conquered Mediolanum and occupied the area adjacent to the original insubric village. The first city of small dimensions and of rectangular matrix, builds its model taking inspiration from the castrum plant.
Founded on the intersection of two main arteries, the cardo and the decumanus, which in the case of Milan modified their rigidly orthogonal plan to adapt to the urban contamination coming from the barbaric village. With the time the Roman city and the insubre joined in one: function of the Via Emilina in 187 a.c. which reached Milan through the southeastern axis of the city. Move the center of gravity and force the road layout of modify the site. The scope of the city is traced in the form of a pentagon, of which traces are evident in urban topography.
A third hexagonal Mediolanum expands north-east towards the Via Veneta. The new team is like a citadel welded to the pentagonal city.
The route of the decumanus reached Porta Vercellina, still traceable today in Via Santa Maria Fulcorina and Via Santa Maria alla Porta, while the thistle decayed shattering sigzagging points. In the imperial age of Milan, it is a new city wall that adopted an irregular pattern to include the various districts and the Circus, which for a while the urban expansion to the west. The new belt was called Massimianea, in honor of Emperor Maximianus Erculeo.

The aim is not only to define a limit but also built en element that can act as a filter between two areas:
The resulting building is a heavy and full body that gets light through the expedient of skylights, like huge wells of light that reach the different altitudes, as can be seen fron the sections.
